I had planned to write this update right afer I wrote my last update on our health, but I put it off for a day or so at the time as we were still unsettled in our plans, and then time just never allowed for any sort of blogging. I covered the health side of things in my last post, so this one is more about the house and where we're at on that end of things.
On June 15 we left for Edmonton, taking a scenic holiday on route there in order to breath some non-Ontario air before treatment begins. As I write this we have been away from home for over two weeks, travelling for 12 day and arriving at our destination on Wednesday evening. It has been nice to be removed from the house and everything that we were daily dealing with.
Over the past two months lots of different ideas and plans have been tossed around and dealt with. We hummed and hawed on what to do with the house: fix or sell. We went through a stage of prepping the house for sale as we had a person who was interested in a private purchase. When that fell through, we went back to the drawing board. In the end, the complications of trying to sell a house "as is" made us finally conclude that it would be best to fix the house.
Since we first found the mold in the attic, we have been dealing with mold remediation companies and two months later we are still trying to get proper quotes. It became obvious that most companies didn't really want to tackle it. The time of year meant roofers were already busy enough and not looking for work, especially after two bad windstorms ripped through the area this spring. The one quote we did finally manage to get was quite vague and we had to call several times because something wasn't listed and so each time they would add what we mentioned and of course add to the price ... making it obvious it was a company we didn't trust to use.
Rob has finally come to terms with the fact that he is going to need to do the repairs himself. He has been extremely busy at work this past year. Between work and consistory and keeping up with the family, the thought of adding a huge project to his to-do list was rather overwhelming, but all in all, with him now out of consistory, it seems best to proceed. While we're in Edmonton he will be busy with the process of ripping the roof open, getting rid of the rotten layer of particple board under the top roof layer, then treating the mold, upgrade the ventilation, spray foam, and close up the roof again. The ceiling in the den also needs to come down, treat it for mold and replace the insulation and ceiling.
But before he can do all that, there are still some factors that need to be worked out. If we move out of Ontario, then fixing and selling the house is the plan . If we decide to stay in Ontario, we do very much love our property and location, and there is a slight possibilty of putting an older prefab home on the property that Rob has connections with through his work ... but we haven't had a chance to do all the math and put serious energy into looking into this option yet. So we would still need to factor out that option and decide between doing that or fixing, selling and relocating in the area.
So as you can read, we are still juggling a few balls in the air. Still lots to think about and process, it becomes a bit tiring on the brain at times and we are very thankful for the holidays we just took while travelling to Edmonton, hopefully it will give us the energy to go forward from here. Ultimately we know that our strength and energy comes from upon and our Heavenly Father is continually there, even during the times of uncertaintly and confusion. We pray for peace of mind and clarity to make wise decisions.
