New Roof

While we've been busy at the clinic Rob has been plenty busy at home.  The past two weekends saw lots of progress on the house and we were so excited when Rob sent us this photo Saturday evening.

Wow!!  We had been hopeful that the roof would be close to done but to be honest, a bit skeptical it would get that far as there are always so many other things that seem to pop up to slow down progress.  But there it is, the roof is basically done except for a small piece to be done yet because they ran out of some supplies.

We are so thankful and indebted to Rob's family and our church family, as well as friends and our neighbour for all the help we have received to get this project done, whether it was being on the roof, providing equipment to help get the job done, making coffee, snacks and lunches, serving and cleaning up the food, vacuuming the house from all the drywall pieces (and then revacuuming when Rob puts his foot through the ceiling after it was cleaned 😯), doing gopher jobs or any of the other ways that everyone helped ... we are so extremely grateful to everyone!

Few more pictures:
Saturday, August 4th a group came out to help with the replacing of the rafters and adjusting of the roof line

Early in the morning on Saturday August 11th - the rafters are replaced, insulation has been sprayed in and the roof is ready to be shingled
Plywood being put on before the shingles can go on.

There is still more work to be done but the biggest and most overwhelming part of the job is done.  Rob has passed over the peak of that mountain that was in front of him for so long and is working his way down the other side.  Most likely the next task he will tackle is to mud, sand and repaint the inside ceilings that were damaged by the replacing of the rafters and his accidental foot slipping through the ceiling.  Someone has offered to arrange the cleaning of the inside of the house, so the sooner Rob gets this done the sooner they can get in to do that job.

After that the fascia will need to be done around the whole house and the siding has to be redone on the dormers.  Then making sure everything is cleaned up properly outside.  The den and basement still need to be sprayed/treated for mold.  The basement is an easy job and Rob is really hoping he can do the den without having to drop the ceiling and insulation.  And then the finishing touches of prepping the house to be put on the market have to be done.

Rob's last day of work at MTC is August 24th.  He had originally hoped he would be packed up and ready to move the last week of August, but that will not be happening.  (As a side note, I never thought he would be ready to move by the end of the month so this is no surprise on my end.)

This coming weekend Rob is flying out to Alberta for a job interview. He will be landing in Edmonton and we will drive down the Coaldale/Taber as a family and also have a look at our new home while we are there.  That means no work will be done on the house this weekend, but once Rob is done at MTC next week Friday he will go full steam ahead so he can get everything done and come join us.

We are often asked whether the kids and I will he returning to Ontario.  Time does not allow for that.  On Friday, August 31st we have our last day of treatment here in Edmonton and then we will be heading down to Taber in order to have a couple days to settle before school starts the following Tuesday.  Eventually, likely once the house is sold, I will fly back to Ontario (or both Rob and I will if he moves here before it sells), to clear out the house.

Unfortunately with Rob still having lots to do in Ontario this means we will be arriving at our new home before Rob and will have to make do without our belongs until he arrives.  We haven't quite worked out the logistics of this yet.  A lot of our belongs need to be replaced anyways, but the majority of my kitchen items we can keep so I will have to wait until he arrives to have those things back.  Should make for some interesting times.  We try our best not to spend too much time worrying about things too far in the future when there seems to be so much going on from one day to the next (and plans so often change anyways), instead we focus as best we can on put our hope and trust in the Lord, each day again, that He will continue to provide as He has done so far.  We often stumble, but we are also reminded and shown again and again how God is good and He will carry us through this also.

"And my God will supply every need of yours according to His riches
in glory in Christ Jesus."  Philippians 4:19

  1. Been a long time since an update.... waiting patiently! How are the kids since treatment stopped? Was it all worth it? Is Rob with you now? Settling in to your new home? Thinking and still praying for you. Thea
